The Bay State Soccer League (BSSL) is the largest open men's amateur soccer league in Massachusetts, with dozens of clubs and hundreds of teams playing across the Greater Boston region from spring through fall. Founded in 1934, BSSL is sanctioned by Mass Youth/Adult Soccer and US Soccer and runs multiple divisions so players of every level — from former college and pro players in the Premier division to recreational sides in the lower flights — can find competitive matches. Matches are played on fields throughout Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Newton, Quincy, and the surrounding suburbs. Teams handle their own rosters, jerseys, and home fields, while BSSL manages scheduling, referees, standings, discipline, and the annual State Cup and league playoffs.
