Friends of the Blue Hills protects and promotes the 7,000-acre Blue Hills Reservation just south of Boston, the largest open space within Greater Boston. The all-volunteer-supported organization leads free guided hikes, full-moon walks, snowshoe outings, and youth nature programs throughout the year. Volunteers maintain 125 miles of trails, monitor wildlife including the reservation's nesting timber rattlesnakes and red-tailed hawks, and host the popular Trails Day and Green Friday hikes. Members receive a quarterly newsletter and discounts on guided programs, while public events remain free and open to anyone who wants to explore the hills.
